Noravank monastery complex is one of the most important religious and cultural centers of medieval Armenia. Noravank is located in the gorge of the Arpa River valley, in the Vayots Dzor region, and is surrounded by rugged cliffs from the all sides. The monastery complex consists of the Church of the Holy Karapet (1216-1221), the Church of St. Gregory (1275) and the Church of the Holy Virgin (1339), which has a unique western facade, with a narrow, pyramid-shaped staircase leading to the second floor.
