
Haghpat Monastery was founded in the Xth century, to the north-east of Sanahin. Those days it was the rule of Ashot III of the Bagration dynasty, the king of Armenia. Among the monuments of Haghpat Monastery are: the Church of the Holy Virgin, (1025), the Church of the Holy Nshan (the Holy Signs), the ancient book depository and some other auxiliary facilities. They say, that in this monastery in the late XVIII th century, Sayat-Nova, a famous folk ashik (poet-singer), lived for a long time.
