According to the Biblical legend, man has tried the taste of wine for the first time, when Noah had tasted the drink at the foot of Mount Ararat. According to ancient manuscripts and folk tales winemaking in Armenia has begun about the XV th century BC. Confirmation of this can be found in works of the ancient Greek historians Xenophon and Herodotus. Now in Armenia they grow six varieties of grapes: Dmak, Voskehat, Guaran, Mskhali, Kangun and Rckhatsiteli. Juice is distilled into alcohol strictly on grades. Depending on alcohol exposure, Armenian brandy is divided into collectible, vintage and ordinary. Vintage is aged in oak barrels for at least six years. In order to make collectible brandy, it must be aged in oak barrels for at least another three years. Almost at all brandy producing factories, numerous in the country, tourists can tast it and, if desired, buy a couple of bottles.
