Turkey is a rapidly modernizing country with one foot in Europe and one in the Middle East. Being one of the world’s top travail destinations, the country welcomes more than 23 millions visitors every year.The history of Turkey tells of a 10,000 year-old civilization. Some of the earliest-known human communities were there. Hittites, Phrygians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, Seljuks, Mongols, Ottomans and others left their buildings and works, their cultures in what is Turkey now. Among the top attractions in Turkey is Istanbul with its mythical site, wealth of historic sights and animated cultural life. Also tourists shouldn’t miss the well-preserved remains of Greco-Roman cities such as Ephesus or Pergamon and the coastal resorts with their sandy beaches and splendid nightlife.Turkey has many different relieves and formations: mountain ranges, extinct volcanoes, plateaus and valleys. Surrounded on its three sides by warm seas, it falls in the temperate climate zone. There are a temperate climate in the Black sea region, a Mediterranean climate on the southern coast, a continental and arid climate on the central plateau and a harsh mountain climate in eastern Turkey. Because of these variations in climate, the fauna and flora are some of the richest in Europe and the Middle East. Geography and climate offer a wide range of opportunities to practice any sport and activities to do: sailing, scuba diving, rafting and canoeing, fishing, skiing and etc.Turkish cuisine has Mediterranean, Caucasian, and Arabic influences. Typical dishes in Turkey are kebab, meze (that is a mixture of appetizers featuring olives, cheese, and pickles), different kinds of fish and seafood, including trout (alabahk), turbot (kalka) and swordfish and sweet desserts such as halva followed by a small cup of thick strong Turkish coffee.
