Oslo - Norway’s capital - is centrally located in the heart of Scandinavia. Bounded by the fjord and the forested hills, Oslo offers fantastic scenery. Oslo is the only major city in Europe that can offer great skiing only minutes away from the city centre by the local underground. Visitors can combine a winter sport holiday with pulsating nightlife, world famous museums and attractions, great shopping and high class cuisine.
Oslo was founded around year 1000 at the very head of Viken, as the Oslofjord was known at that time. Oslo City Hall is located in the city centre only a few hundred meters from the city’s main street and overlooks the Oslofjord filled with moored pleasure craft, shrimp trawlers, cruise ships, charter boats and ferries to all the islands. Oslo abounds with sights of interest, such as museums, parks, urban districts with listed buildings and a well-developed array of shops. The Viking Ship Museum displays the large Viking ships Oseberg, Gokstad and Tune, as well as founds from the chief grave at Borre in the Vestfold district. The Munch Museum contains Edvard Munch's bequest to the city of Oslo, a vast collection of his own paintings, drawings and graphic works. As most sights are within walking distance of each other, travelers can reach all them on foot.

With more than 155 houses and numerous objects from all major regions the Open-Air Museum shows traditional farms from the various regions with their wooden barns, stables, storehouses and dwellings as well as city houses in the Old Town.
