Shamwari Game Reserve Wins Two 2012 World Travel Awards

Shamwari Game Reserve situated in the Eastern Cape near Port Elizabeth has once again walked away with two World Travel Awards, in the categories of \'Africa\'s Leading Conservation Company\' and \'Africa\'s Leading Safari Lodge\' at the 2012 World Travel Awards.

Lion Cubs spotted at Jock Safari Lodge

Recently while out on a drive, 11 lion cubs were spotted very close to the lodge. We\'re monitoring them from a distance and regular updates will be available on our Facebook page. As a result of the impressive new deck at the lodge, which overlooks the riverbed, we\'re hoping this will provide an even better lookout point for our guests to enjoy this magnificent Big 5 territory.

The Explorer Camp @ Sanbona Wildlife Reserve Opens for Summer

Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, situated close to Cape Town, has reopened the Explorer Camp after its first and highly successful launch season. Explorer Camp will be operational until April 2013, which is perfect for guests looking for an authentic safari adventure in this unique wilderness reserve.

Winner of 2011 African Eye Award for Best Family Resort

Shamwari Game Reserve has been named the winner of the prestigious 2011 African Eye Award for Best Family Resort. Shamwari Game Reserve will also be nominated for the 2011 Golden Eye Award, an award given by The Eye Awards for the best overall hotel worldwide. The Golden Eye Award winner will be announced December 15, 2012.

Artist Announced for Shamwari\'s \'Pride of Cape Town\' Lion

We\'re extremely proud to announce that local artist, Andile Dylvane has joined forces with us to create a unique design for Shamwari\'s life-size fibreglass lion sculpture, which is part of the Pride of Cape Town public arts event set to launch at the V & A Waterfront in March 2013, masterminded by the Born Free Foundation and Wild in Art.

Born Free Re-Born!

Last month saw the worldwide release of the Oscar-winning song \'Born Free\' re-recorded by legendary Queen Guitarist Brian May & West End & Broadway songstress Kerry Ellis. The classic hit single will be sold in aid of the international wildlife charity, the Born Free Foundation. The release of \'Born Free\' ties in with the departure of Freddie the Lion, the impressive fibreglass Freddie Mercury \'lookalike\' lion that set sail this week on a 21-day voyage from the UK to Cape Town.
