Activities in Algeria. The city of Mascara (which means "a city of soldiers") is located in the north-western Algeria, in Mostaganem province, on the southern slope of Shareb al-Rira. In the past there was a strong Roman garrison (Roman ruins are partly preserved). Today Mascara is a knot of highways and a center of food industry, due to agricultural lands, growing grapes, corn, early vegetables, olive oil, and making excellent wine in city vicinities. The town also has a garment producing factory, which production attracts tourists
