Sightseeing Salzburg. Old Town is located on the left bank of the Salzach river, surrounded by rocky mountains Menhsberg and Festungberg. Hohensalzburg Castle is located on Festungberg mountain. The city is very interesting to be observed while walking, starting from Rezidentsplats - the central square of the old city. Here is the Archbishop’s Residence (1619), with luxurious interiors and the Museum of “the Gallery of Residence”. On the contrary is the New residence with antique clocks of 1873 and Sattler museum. Fountain Rezidentsbrunnen (1661) is near by. At the foot of Menhsberg mountain is the Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter, founded in 690. Some parts of the abbey and the cathedral are open for tourists. Certainly worth visiting the Cathedral of St. Peter (1143), which holds the relics of St. Rupert and the Catacombs, where the early Christian era hermits lived. Do not miss the Cathedral, the Franciscan church, Kollegienkirhe and walk on the Getreidegasse street, where Mozart was born.
