Gorenjska destination invites with its Green Card
A few years ago one of the most visited tourist regions in Slovenia, Gorenjska, began to connect at a regional level under the trademark Slovenian Alps. The region is composed of 18 municipalities; besides the most recognizable tourist towns, such as Bled, Bohinj and Kranjska Gora, the region offers several smaller, less known, but highly attractive places and experiences as well. In order to increase mobility inside the region and enable tourists, in a sustainable manner, an even richer experience, the Gorenjska Green Card has been placed on the market.
The basic purpose of the card is to promote sustainable tourism in Gorenjska region, which means dispersing guests through all 18 Gorenjska municipalities with the purpose of becoming familiar with less known places, extending the accommodation time and increasing the use of public transport.
The purpose of the Green Card, which provides discounts and free sightseeing to guests is to increase the local consumption by tourists in the region – namely, by two per cent annually – and promote Gorenjska as a sustainable destination. Until the end of 2013, 100 attractions will be included in the distribution system of the card, which is expected to be used by at least one percent of tourists.
`We are aware that guests do not know the municipal borders, and that`s how it should be. However, Gorenjska as a region can offer a lot to a guest – natural, cultural, historical and culinary features and characteristics,` said Eva Štravs Podlogar, the director of Bled Turizem (Bled Turizem also acts in the name of the regional destination organisation of Gorenjska).
The card will provide to guests additional information about what one can experience and taste in the area. The final objective is a satisfied guest and his larger mobility in the region. Now around 500,000 guests create more than 1.5 million overnight tourist stays in the Gorenjska region annually.
The tourist discount card also provides to guests in Gorenjska several special discount offers for the sightseeing of numerous tourist attractions, culinary offer, diverse sports activities and other experiences in the region – all included providers are marked with the Gorenjska Green Card label.
A whole family (two adults and children) can enjoy the benefits with just one card. The card is valid for 30 days from the activation date during the first overnight stay in the Gorenjska region; it can be obtained through selected accommodation providers. It can be also ordered through the Slovenian Alps website or through the Slovenian Alps Travel Guide mobile application.
The free Slovenian Alps Travel Guide mobile application provides information on accommodation, attractions and events, GPS tracking of the current location, automatic suggestion of discounts in the vicinity, data on opening times and addresses, service without Internet connection and an electronic card for identification; it is available in English, Italian, German, Croatian and Slovenian.
If a guest does not need the card in physical form anymore, Gorenjska invites the guests to return the card to TIC or any other provider from the catalogue; namely, the card can be given to other guests, which represents an additional contribution to the care for the environment.
