The Downtown Alliance has introduced BigBelly Solar Stations, the newest environmentally friendly technology, at five of the busiest intersections in Lower Manhattan.
Reducing both the amount of bags needed to collect waste and the number of trips needed for collection, BigBelly Solar Stations can hold five times as much as a standard trashcan. Additionally, these receptacles use solar panels to power a motor that automatically compacts everything inside each unit and each bin has a sensor to alert sanitation crews when the unit reaches full capacity.
The new BigBelly Solar Stations can be found at the following Lower Manhattan intersections:
Southwest corner of Broadway and Vesey Street
Northeast corner of Broadway and Maiden Lane
Northeast corner of Church Street and Cortlandt Street
Southwest corner of Water Street and Fulton Street
Northwest corner of Water Street and Wall Street
