Art & Soul Festival Gets an Upgrade
This upcoming weekend, celebrate Oakland\'s biggest festival of the year, which has
expanded to incorporate a nighttime street party, more live entertainment from national acts and local bands, and new visual displays. Art & Soul has been recognized as one of the top 12 festivals in Northern California, and one of the best in the Bay Area. This year, the 12th annual festival will include film projections, art installations, mobile food trucks, carnival rides and more. Visitors and locals can also enjoy the expanded hours, from 2 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, and on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. For tickets and details on the lineup, visit ArtandSoulOakland.com.
Get Your Shop On - Oakland Retail Expands
As many Oakland neighborhoods continue to gain new restaurants and bars, retail offerings have begun to expand as well. The notable Popuphood cluster in Old Oakland has added two new shops to the mix, including the high-end women\'s clothing store McMullen, and Umami Mart, selling kitchen and housewares from Japan. On Grand Avenue, Owl N Wood, which is scheduled to open its doors on August 11, will offer unique locally designed products and clothing, as well as international brands and vintage pieces. Nathan & Co., a popular Piedmont Avenue shop for home decor, has recently opened up a second location in Rockridge, adding to the variety of excellent shopping along College Avenue. For more on the latest Oakland shopping, see visitoakland.org/shop.
Children\'s Fairyland Welcomes New Attraction
Visitors to Oakland\'s historic storybook theme park will find a new attraction on their next trip - The Jack & Jill Hill. The green sliding hill is the newest addition to Fairyland in four years. The intention of the new ride is to encourage kids to take part in physical activity, incorporating the low-tech, high-touch approach from the park. Bring your kids to Fairyland today to be one of the first to try the new ride. For more information, visit fairyland.org.

Airport Connector Meets Milestone
Travel to and from the Oakland International Airport (OAK) will be even more convenient with the new, direct airport connection through the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. The Oakland Airport Connector has met its halfway point with construction and will be a great resource for travelers. Trains will leave every four or five minutes between the airport and the BART system, providing a seamless transition for travel. Stay tuned for more updates on the new and improved connection here and at flyoakland.com.
