Buena Park, CA, June 5, 2012 – High fives were flying at the City of Buena Park on May 29 after finding out their city was named a finalist in the 2012 Best of the Road Rally Contest sponsored by Rand McNally and USA Today. Buena Park, the only finalist from California, will compete with five other destinations in the category for \"Most Fun\" Small Town in America. The 2012 Best Small Towns were chosen from over 700 competing destinations, with four finalists returning from the 2011 Rally.
Five teams of amateur travelers will start their journey from Washington, D.C. on June 15. Each team will visit six towns in an assigned category: most beautiful, most patriotic, friendliest, most fun, and best food, as well as points of interest en route. The judges will reveal their findings in blogs, reviews, photos and videos. The chronicles of their adventures will determine the winners in each category.
The towns will do their best to show off their claims to fame, from the local cuisine to unique attractions. Towns are encouraged to provide tours, bring the team to city hall, or even throw parades in their honor.
\"We are very excited to welcome the Road Rally judges into our town,” says Sara Copping, executive director for Visit Buena Park. “We may be small but we are home to several fun attractions. We plan on showing off our town assets with a kick-off party at the California Welcome Center followed by a behind the scenes private tour of Knott’s Berry Farm, Soak City USA Water Park, Knott’s Independence Hall, Pirate’s Dinner Adventure, Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament and the Buena Park Downtown Mall.”
When the teams arrive in Seattle after four weeks on the road, one team will win a $10,000 grand prize for submitting the best content from their cross‐country adventure. The winning town in each category will also be announced at the annual (DMAI) Destination Marketing Association International conference in Seattle.
