The grand inauguration of the 2011 Christmas Tree will be on Saturday, November 26, starting at 8pm, in the Estádio de Remo da Lagoa, near to the Parque dos Patins.
Major attractions at the event include the Fundação Bradesco Choir, the Barra Mansa Symphony Orchestra (under the baton of Maestro Vantoil), Gal Costa and Frejat. In addition to the concert, the Grupo Nós da Dança will perform, and the whole event is being MC’d by actor Edson Celulari.
This year’s theme is “a present for the Brazilian family”, the intention being to recall past Christmas nights with the family, with the exchange of presents as a form of loving and caring. The tree will be covered in loops and ribbons, and the water around it will be full of floating presents to add even more color to the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. This is the big difference in this year’s decoration, together with typical Christmas decorations – socks for presents and Candy Canes. The unique scenic design is by artist Abel Gomes, of P&G Cenografia.
To add to the beauty of the occasion, there will be a huge fireworks display to mark the first official night of the 16th consecutive edition of the Christmas Tree. The display will last for eight minutes, synchronized with special sound and lighting effects.
