July saw the release of the final film in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Steeped in history and intrigue it is no surprise that J K Rowling took inspiration from her surroundings in Edinburgh and beyond to create the stunning novel series and the subsequent films. VisitScotland has highlighted some of the must visit \"Potter hot spots\" from across the country.
In Edinburgh the Spoon Cafe Bistro and The Elephant House are two cosy cafes where J K Rowling wrote the early Potter novels and the Balmoral Hotel was where she wrote the final chapters of the seventh novel. The Jacobite Steam Train provided the steam engine and carriages for the \'Hogwarts Express\', which was travelling across the Glenfinnan Viaduct in the Highlands.
